Digital Exhibition, 2023

Mending the Museum

Mending the Museum invites ten artists, namely: Shaheer Zazai, Khadija Aziz, denirée isabel, Lan “Florence” Yee, Paola Torres Nuñez del Prado, kaya joan, Juan Pablo Hernández Gutiérrez, Chiedza Pasipanodya, Habiba El Sayed and Kendra Yee, to intervene in the Gardiner Museum and the Textile Museum of Canada’s archives via digital artworks and community workshops exploring cultural ancestry and futurisms.

Each artwork responds to the concept of “fragments” whether literal pieces of textiles and ceramics, such as disheveled textiles and broken plates, or conceptual interpretations of fragmented information, realities, histories, and stories.

From the Curators

“During the trajectory of this project, which started with a research-creation process in partnership with two local museums, the main challenge that the invited artists faced was the lack of information available about the artworks provenance, the artist(s) who made it, and the processes of making.”
